AFST(I) Diamond Jubilee Three Days Workshop on "Codex"
Mr. Sanjay Dave, Chairman for Codex Coordinating Committee for Asia (CC-Asia) * Chairman of Surakshit Khadya Abhiyan(Safe Food Mission for All), Government of India conducted 3 days AFST(I) Diamond Jubilee Workshop on "Codex" at Centre of Food Technology from 14th - 16th November 2017.
Codex Alimentarius Commission is an inter-government body with over 180 members with the framework of the Joint Food Standards Programme established by the FAO of the United Nations and WHO, with the purpose of protecting the health of consumers and ensuring fair practices in the food trade.
Mr. Dave in his workshop covered Codex and its relevance, rights and obligations under the SPS agreement, structure of Codex and elaborated some case studies on use of Codex in Food Control System for monitoring of pesticide residues, promoting export of organic products to developed markets and harmonization of national standards with use of Codex. On last day of the concluding session a quiz competition on Codex was organised for the students focusing on the three days lectures. The certificates were distributed to all the participants of the workshop. Prof. Neelam Yadav, Director, IPS and Dr. Vinita Puranik, organising secretary along with other faculty members was present during the valedictory session of this workshop.
This 3 day training programme was jointly organized by Centre of Food Technology, IPS, University of Allahabad and AFST(I) Allahabad Chapter for students of Centre of Food Technology, Ewing Christian College, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences and members of AFST(I). Through this training program the centre aims to provide the students and food professionals about variety of aspects of food safety, laws, standards and regulations related to food trade.
